A Godwin man was taken into custody Monday afternoon after an investigation of a report of child sex abuse led to his arrest.
Around 1 p.m. at Simmons Army Air Field, investigators with the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office, assisted by U.S. Military Police, arrested Robert Theodore Sigler, 58, who resides in Sampson County.
Mr. Sigler, who is a civilian contractor for the Army, was charged after a November 2017 investigation led police to discover he was involved in incidents taking place between 2016 and 2017 and involved a 12-year-old child.
According to Sampson County Sheriff’s Capt. Eric Pope, Mr. Sigler had been previously arrested on similar charges last year.
“Sigler was charged on April 20 with one count of indecent liberties with a child and two counts of sexual exploitation of a minor and was currently out on bond,” Capt. Pope said. “Since that arrest, additional probable cause was developed warranting the charges for which he was taken into custody Monday.”
The latest charges against him include four counts of statutory rape, two counts of statutory sexual offense, two counts of sodomy and seven counts of indecent liberties with a child.
Mr. Sigler was taken to the Sampson County Detention Center where he was placed under a $1 million secured bond and given a May 18 initial court appearance on the latest charges.
