Runners and walkers can lace up their sneakers for an annual event in Erwin and Dunn this weekend to benefit a local counseling service. The CareNet Rail Trail 5k will be held Sunday. The event, now in its eighth year, is the main fundraiser for the CareNet Counseling of the Central Region. The service, with offices in Erwin, provides support to people in difficult financial circumstances regardless of their ability to provide payment for services.
Walkers and runners who are registered for the race will gather near the end of the Dunn-Erwin Rail Trail beginning at 2 p.m. From there a shuttle service will take participants to the Ashe Avenue access to the Rail Trail in Dunn.
The participants will then wind their way down the former railroad route between the two towns and will cross the finish line back See CareNet, Page 3 CareNet
