Police Say Impaired Driver Crashed Into School Bus

Daily Record Photo/Shaun Savarese – Police say the driver of this car, wanted for breaking and entering, rammed into a school bus in Erwin Thursday morning.

A Coats-Erwin Middle School bus was rear-ended by an impaired driver at approximately 7 yesterday morning, totaling the car and resulting in multiple criminal charges, according to Erwin Police.

Ezekiel Williams, 22, of Bunnlevel ran into the back of the stopped school bus in his 2013 Toyota passenger car at the corner of South 13th and West C Streets. School officials contacted parents immediately and no injuries were reported.


Mr. Williams had an outstanding warrant for arrest for breaking and entering and was charged with driving while impaired and several other minor traffic offenses. At the time of his arrest, his blood alcohol concentration was reported as 0.13. The legal limit is 0.08.

He was confined to the Harnett County Jail under a reported $2,500 bond.

At the time of the collision, there were nine children aboard Bus 88.

Mr. Williams’ car was totaled and an alternate school bus from the county was brought in to continue the morning pick-up route and bring the children to school.
