Carl Hoover Tew, 87, of Dunn died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2017, at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh.
He was born in Sampson County on March 13, 1930, son of the late Roscoe Franklin Tew and Rosilia Williford Tew. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Wallace “Dick” Tew and Velmon Tew.
Mr. Tew was a farmer all his life. He was a member of Robert’s Grove OFWB Church, Spivey’s Corner. After retiring from a life of farming, he worked at Waste Industries and then delivering ice cream for Jackson’s Dairy. He enjoyed tinkering around the homestead finding new uses for old things.
A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Robert’s Grove OFWB Church with the Revs. Fred Baker and Ricky Warren officiating. Entombment will follow in the church cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Doris Strickland Tew; daughter, Sharon Hooton and husband David of Dunn; grandchildren, Jill Smith and husband Scot, Hollie Meininger and husband Nick; greatgrandchildren, Gavin Smith, Olivia Meininger and Graham Smith; and sister, Iris Odell Naylor of Dunn.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 until 8 p.m. at Cromartie-Miller Funeral Home in Dunn.
