Midway’s football team suffered a 49-0 loss at East Central 2-A Conference foe Clinton Friday.
“We shot ourselves in the foot tonight,” said Midway coach Jason Fussell. “Some of the boys played hard. We’re young, but they play hard.”
Carson Calcutt was 3-of-9 passing for 36 yards, with two interceptions, and ran for 3 yards on five carries.
Jamarrious Rich ran for 18 yards on seven carries and had three receptions for 36 yards. Donte Blue ran for 21 yards on eight carries for the Raiders (35, 1-2 ECC).
Javen Covington ran for 13 yards on six carries. Deonte Byrd ran for 4 yards on seven carries. Zack Fann had a 2-yard carry.
Donte McLellan ran for 151 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries and Jalen Smith ran for 136 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries to lead the Dark Horses (3-3, 2-0).
“They got on the edge with us a few times and we couldn’t do anything with it,” Fussell said.
The first quarter was scoreless, but a McLellan interception in the final minute led to a 44-yard Smith touchdown run early in the second that fully shifted the momentum to Clinton’s side.
Midway hosts unbeaten East Duplin (8-0, 3-0) Friday.
“Our goal is just to keep getting better,” Fussell said. “We’ve got a young group and we know it.
“So, keep improving.”
