Members Get Creative With Chalky Paint

Members of the Dunn Intermediate Woman’s Club met at the Howard House Sept. 26 for their first meeting of the club year.

President Zada Mulcahy opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance. Packs of crackers were collected for patients at the Cancer Center. This will be a monthly activity for the year as well as collection of magazines.

Club members recently collected items for Hurricane Harvey victims in Texas. Plans for the club year were discussed such as making S.A.F.E. bags for domestic abuse victims, speakers and club fundraisers including a Spring Fling, collection of empty cereal boxes for a local church’s missionary aid and the upcoming General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) N.C. District 6 Fall Meeting on Oct. 21 in Lillington. All three Dunn GFWC clubs will host this meeting.

The club provided five volunteers to help at Friends of the Howard House’s fundraiser Casino Night on Sept. 30.

Arts Department Chair Kathy Ledford introduced Julia Alden of Sanford who is a Chalky and Company representative who then guided members to release their inner talents with a chalky paint party. It was a fun evening where members learned to paint and be creative.

Refreshments were provided by Kathy Ledford and Susie Creel.

The next meeting will be on Oct. 24 at the office of TRP CPAs. All area women are invited to attend.
