A Dunn man first reported missing Saturday by his father, Tony Covington, is now at the center of a murder investigation.
Devonte Saquan Tart 24, of 1018 Edgerton St., Dunn, was shot and his body was found Saturday around 2:30 p.m. lying near a fence of a vacant apartment complex in Spring Lake along the 1300 block of King St.
Mr. Tart had no identification on him and officials did not immediately know who he was, but he was later identified Sunday.
Spring Lake officials believe he was shot elsewhere and taken to the vacant apartment building. Police say Mr. Tart was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to a Dunn Police missing person’s report, Mr. Tart’s family said they received information Mr. Tart was shot early Friday morning on the 600 block of East Harnett Street. That was where Mr. Tart was last seen alive.
Family members of Mr. Tart told Dunn Police the names of two men who they believed he might have been with.
Two residents in the 600 block of East Harnett Street reported to Dunn Police at 1:30 a.m. Friday that their homes had been shot into. Police reported they saw the holes in the homes. One of the residents said she heard approximately 17 shots.
One caller said a white Lincoln Town Car was involved in the shooting.

shell casings from three different weapons which were recovered from Little Avenue and East Vance Street. While there a woman told them she saw a green car on the scene which left when the police arrived.
There is no connection yet that the shooting on East Harnett Street is connected to Mr. Tart’s death.
