February Programs For Adults Announced At Library

The Harnett County Library in Lillington offers a variety of programs each month for adults, announced Katie Whitehead, reference librarian. From yoga to art classes, there’s plenty to keep you busy.

Programs this month include the following.

. Turning Pages Book Club — Thursday, Feb. 15, at 10 a.m. Club members are reading “Big Little Lies” by Liane Moriarty.

. Yoga — Tuesday, Feb. 20, 5 p.m. Sign-up is required. Limited spaces available. Sign up at the circulation desk or by calling the library. A few yoga mats will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own. Each class is a designed around a Hatha method. Hatha simply refers to the practice of physical yoga postures designed to align and calm your body, mind and spirit in preparation for meditation.

The class is an open-level, beginners class to create a gentle moving meditation using breath and physical asana. Dawn Kurtz teaches this class once a month and relies on cues and exploration to help find your edge. The class is fun and open to questions and often a few laughs.

. Lunchtime Book Club — Thursday, Feb. 22, at noon. Sign-up is required if new to the group. Sign up at the circulation desk or by calling the library. Club members are reading “Big Little Lies” by Liane Moriarty. Feel free to bring your lunch.

. “Healing from the Land: An African-American Heritage” — Saturday, Feb. 24, at 11 a.m. Ammie Jenkins will give a presentation on the history of local African-American traditional usages of North Carolina native plants and herbs to maintain personal health.

Ms. Jenkins, a Harnett County native, is the author of two books, “Preserving Our Family Heritage” and “Healing from the Land.” She is the family heritage keeper who preserves histories and stories of African-Americans in the Sandhills region. She is the founder of Sandhills Family Heritage Association, a nonprofit committed to preserving African-American history and culture.

. Art Class for Adults — Monday, Feb. 26, at 5:30 p.m. Subject will be “Sketching.” Sign-up is required. Limited spaces are available. Sign up at the circulation desk or by calling the library.
