Virginia Snead Batten, 89


FOUR OAKS, N.C. — Mrs. Virginia S. Batten, age 89, of 1092 Strickland’s Crossroads Road passed away peacefully Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Stewart’s Chapel PFWB Church. Officiating will be the Revs. Freddy Langston and Jerome Bullard. Entombment will be in Pauline Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Batten was born on June 15, 1928, in Johnston County to the late Walter Robert and Rovella Hayes Snead. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Batten; brothers, Franz Snead, Dwight Snead, Howard Snead and Kermit Snead. Mrs. Batten was a homemaker and attended Stewart’s Chapel PFWB Church.

Surviving are son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Brenda Batten of Four Oaks; daughters and sons-in-law, Wanda B. and Tracy Rhodes of Four Oaks, Joyce B. and Will Boykin of Middlesex, Patsy B. and Kiah Barnhill of Ivanhoe; five grandchildren and spouses, Kimberly B. and Buck Winbourne of Four Oaks, Preston and Deanna Batten of Four Oaks, Matthew and Savannah Rhodes of Four Oaks, Andrew Rhodes and Ashley Powell of Four Oaks, Caroline Barnhill, Christina Barnhill, and Claire Barnhill, all of Ivanhoe; five great-grandchildren, Kayla and Kelly Batten, Colton and Carson Winbourne, and Grayson Rhodes; sister, Lola S. Rhodes of Smithfield; brother, Robert H. Snead of Fort Meade, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Four Oaks and other times at the home.

The family would like to extend a very special thanks to Dr. Chase Campbell and Johnston Health Home Care and Hospice for the amazing love and care for our sweet mother.
