James Herrill Bryan, 68, of Newton Grove passed away peacefully at home on Monday, April 17, 2017. Mr. Bryan was preceded in death by his parents, James Aldon Bryan and Annie Catherine Guy Bryan. Mr. Bryan, along with his parents, brother, Sherrill Guy Bryan and sister, Audrey Bryan Sessoms, ran Bryan Milling Company from 1952 until 1991. Herrill was known as “Cornmeal Man” to family and friends. He was a loving husband and father. He was a car enthusiast and loved drag racing.
Herrill is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Helen Wehner Bryan; brother, Sherrill Guy Bryan of Goldsboro; sister, Audrey Bryan Sessoms of Newton Grove; daughter, Adrienne Bryan Burke and son-in-law Ian Burke of Pullman, Wash.; son, James Herrill Bryan Jr. and daughter-in-law Jenny Byrd Bryan of Four Oaks; and daughter, Katie Bryan and fiancé Matthew Herring of Newton Grove; grandchildren, George Burke, Tanner McNeese, Jordan Bryan and Jenna Bryan; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Bryan’s funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Maple Grove United Methodist Church. The funeral will be officiated by the Rev. Curtis Pierce and the Rev. Joey Yow. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Internment will take place at Lee-Johnson Cemetery immediately following the funeral.
