Jimmie Shelton Hamilton, 94, of Dunn died Saturday morning, July 15, 2017, at his home.

Mr. Hamilton was born July 26, 1922, in Harnett County, son of the late Randle Holt Hamilton and Ockey Lucas Hamilton. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Louise Ennis Hamilton; daughter, Elaine Pope; and brothers, Dalton, Edward and Leodell Hamilton.

Mr. Hamilton was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a retired farmer.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. today at Skinner & Smith Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerome Pope officiating. Burial will follow in Erwin Memorial Park.

Survivors include his daughters, Marjorie Thomas and husband Ray of Dunn, Dorothy Pope and husband Edward of Erwin, and Brenda Johnson Stewart of Benson; brothers, R.L. Hamilton and Gary Hamilton, both of Dunn; sister, Rilda Collier of Angier; grandchildren, Jeffrey Scott Thomas and wife Veronica, Jimmie Ray Thomas and wife Kim, Raymond Pope and wife Trish, Edwina Pope Sullivan and husband Billy, Scharman Pope Clifton and husband Shannon, Bonnett Pope, Shannon Pope and wife Joy, Lewis Pope, Teresa Barnhill and husband Shaun and Joseph B. Hamilton; and great-grandchildren, Jozy Raven, Levi Thomas, Olivia Truelove, Kendall Thomas, Bishop Thomas, Katie Thomas, Emma Thomas, Trent Thomas, Wyatt Thomas, Kalie Wilson, Matthew Sullivan, Ruby Holloman, Mazie Sullivan, Gray Sullivan III, Jeb Clifton, Colton Clifton, Corey, James Pope, Luke Shirley, Lincoln Shirley, Kimberly Pope, Brooke Barnhill, Hamilton Barnhill and Bruce Hamilton.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. today, prior to the service, at the funeral home.
