Joshua “Josh” Lewis Barefoot, 24, of 5610 Red Hill Church Road, Coats, died Friday, Aug. 4, 2017, at his residence.

He was born Aug. 8, 1992, in Wake County to Donnie and Valinda McDaniel Barefoot of Coats. He was preceded in death by maternal great-grandparents, Gladys and C. Lewis Williams; maternal grandfather, Mac McDaniel; and paternal grandparents, Rossie and Iva Barefoot. He was a firefighter and worked for Benson and Dunn fire departments.

Mr. Barefoot was named Fire Fighter of the Year by the City of Benson in 2011. He was a graduate of the Class of 2010 from South Johnston High School and attended Sanford Fire Academy. He attended Benson PFWB Church.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Rose & Graham Funeral Home Chapel in Benson. The Rev. Glenn McCullen, the Rev. Mark Fields and Tramp Dunn will officiate. Entombment will follow in the Roselawn Community Mausoleum, Benson.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include sisters, Kate Barefoot and Jamie Hardee of Coats, Donna Valley and husband Brian of Coats; niece, Kirsten Valley; nephew, Dawson Valley; and maternal grandparents, Shirley McDaniel and Ken Moore of Benson.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home and other times at the home.

Flowers are welcomed, however, memorials may be made in Mr. Barefoot’s memory for a baseball scholarship at South Johnston High School, Attention: Brandy Peters, 10381 U.S. 301 South, Four Oaks, NC 27524.
