Raiders Rout Goldsboro

The Raiders routed the Cougars at home, 16-6. in six innings.

Midway was able to score those runs on just four hits, two from sophomore Drew Matthews. Austin Peterson and Colby Pope recorded the other two hits between them.

Matthews had three RBIs but wasone of only three Raiders who didn’t score a run against Goldsboro. Peterson also recorded three RBIs. Both players hit triples.

Midway walked, as a team, 12 times in 21 at bats.

Eight total pitchers combined for 281 pitches. Midway threw 133. Carson Calcutt threw 60 pitches, Sawyer Sutton threw 43 and Cal Tyndall threw 30.

Goldsboro’s six pitchers hit six batters. Sophomore Cal Tyndall was struck three times.

Goldsboro started the scoring, with a run in the first. Midway answered back with five runs of their own.

The Raiders score another in the second, then two runs in the third and fourth innings.

They ended the game with a six-run sixth inning and sit at second in the East Central 2A Conference with an overall record of 9-3 and a conference record 4-1.

East Duplin has won six straight games, is undefeated in the East Central and have just one loss — to Swansboro — on the season.
