Ray Jefferson Smith, 88, of Sanford died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2017, at his home.
He was born in Harnett County, son of the late Allie Prentiss Smith and Lorena Rambeaut Smith. He was preceded in death by his brothers, James Lee Smith and Gene Smith; and his great-granddaughter, Chloe Leslie.
He was a member of Spring Hill United Methodist Church and was an avid hunter, fisherman, gardener and cook.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Spring Hill United Methodist Church with Dr. Jerome Smith and the Rev. Brad Marona officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Survivors include his wife Claudia Roberts Smith; daughters, Sharon Rose Fields and husband Jimmy of Carthage, Raynelle Allred of Robbins, Sylvia Darline Ratliff of Sanford and Janet Lynn Smith of Sanford; sisters, Peggy Spencer and husband Bill of Smithfield, Pauline Godwin and husband Al of Charlotte; brothers, Mike Smith and wife Blanche, and Fred Smith, all of Angier; 12 grandchildren; and 23 greatgrandchildren.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church.
