Ruth N. Everhart, 84

Ruth Nance Everhart, 84, of Lillington died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2017, following a long battle with cancer.

She was a Christmas baby, born in Silver Valley, N.C., on Dec. 25, 1932, to the late Grover Cleveland Nance and Kate Gobble Nance. She and her husband, Joe, were married on Aug. 7, 1948. She was a stay-at-home mother who supported her husband’s business as a salesman. She was a room mother at school, a member of the PTA, a Cub Scout Den Mother, and a “dance mom,” among other things.

Mrs. Everhart was an avid gardener. She was a certified emergency medical technician and Red Cross volunteer on the Blood Mobile. She provided childcare for working parents. She was involved in her church where she worked on and led numerous committees, taught Sunday school and Bible school, worked with youth groups, performed with the handbell ensemble, was a member of the Women’s Circle, and cooked and baked for numerous meals. She was a lifelong choir member, retiring only when her illness made participation impossible.

She was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister.

Mrs. Everhart has donated her body to science. Visitation with the family will be at Lillington United Methodist Church in the education building Saturday from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 2 p.m. in the sanctuary.

Survivors include her husband of 69 years, Joe D. Everhart; sons, Joel L. Everhart and wife Kathy of Lake Gaston, Rex M. Everhart and wife Carol of Clayton, Anthony “Tony” W. Everhart and wife Sandra of Joelton, Tenn.; and daughter, Angela Everhart Andrews and husband Lynn of Harrisburg; grandchildren, Jessica Everhart Denny (Brian), Brooke Everhart Chehoski (Jason), Miranda Everhart Evenson (G.J.), Moriah Everhart Blount (Chris), Kasey Everhart Kitchen (Austin), Blaine Andrews (Sydni), Aubrey Andrews Troutman (David) and Ashton Andrews (Christopher Allman); 12 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Samuel Nance of Rockingham and Rebecca (Beckie) Jolly Moore (née Nance) of Lillington.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests gifts be made in memory of Ruth Nance Everhart to Lillington United Methodist Church, 1201 S. Main St., P.O. Box 506, Lillington, NC 27546.
