School Supplies And Items For Veterans Discussed At Legion Auxiliary 59 Meeting

The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 59 started its new meeting year with President Brenda Page calling the event to order. Everyone present stood and gave respect to the flag with the Pledge of Allegiance.

Linda James said a prayer for the meeting. “God Bless America” was sung in unison followed by the preamble.

Becky Hartley gave the treasurer’s report. Brenda Page recognized the POW/MIA chair as required by Resolution 288.

A birthday basket was prepared for Ronald Parker by Gwen Murray and delivered by Shirley Cannady and Olease Hudson.

A thank-you card received from Girl’s State attendee Anya Smith was read.

During a discussion of old business, Military Men in Action supplies were delivered to Woodforest National Bank after the June meeting. Cases of water were delivered to the Erwin Fire and Rescue Department and to the Plainview Fire and Rescue Department.

Gold Star recipients not present at the ceremony in June were mailed their gifts by Olease Hudson.

A spaghetti dinner would be prepared for the men as a fundraiser for Girl’s State.

New Business

Auxiliary members discussed new business. School supplies were gathered by Becky Hartley. The VA needs include Dial body wash, Chapstick and deodorant. A motion was made to purchase these items by Cindy Godwin and seconded by Shirley Cannady. The motion carried.

Water will be purchased again for the Dunn, Erwin and Plain View fire and rescue departments.

The October meeting will be at 2:30 p.m., so Girl’s State attendees are able to attend. They will tell of their experience at Girl’s State.

Monthly collections include money for President’s Pennies and coupons for the troops.

The closing prayer was given by Linda James.
