Nate Laing is shown with his parents, Robbie and Dana, at Senior Night at Harnett Central in 2012. Laing has started five games for Central Florida this season and is averaging 16.9 minutes. His dad, who coached Campbell from 2003 to 2013, is an assistant for the Knights. Laing was planning to serve as a graduate assistant but Aubrey Dawkins, a transfer from Michigan, advised his dad and UCF coach Johnny Dawkins, a former Duke player and assistant coach, to give Laing a look. The Knights started 12-3 overall and 3-0 in the American Athletic Conference in Dawkins’ first season as coach. Laing kicked and punted in high school at Central and was Male Athlete of the Year as a senior. Dawkins left Duke to coach Stanford. Robbie Laing was an assistant at Florida Atlantic prior to UCF.
