The Dunn Angels (10-and-under) softball All-Stars opened the Dixie state tournament in Carthage on Saturday with a 6-1 win over West Chatham.
Aubree Bass hit a two-run homer to right field in the third inning for the Angels, the defending state champions. Coach Jeremy Bass distributed the pitching between Bass, who went one inning with one strikeout, Emily Williams and Emily Scott.
Dunn’s pitchers still have not allowed a hit after five no-hitters in the district tournament but yielded their first run Saturday as a result of errors. Dunn had three errors against West Chatham.
Williams pitched two innings Saturday with three strikeouts. Scott recorded four strikeouts in two innings.
Offensively, Scott had two hits and two RBIs. Jazmin Rummel had a hit and drove in a run. Also collecting hits for Dunn were Harmony Horne, Kenzie Adams and Berkley Campbell. KaraBeth Benton had a sacrifice bunt that brought in a run.
Dunn met Montgomery County on Sunday at 4 p.m. That game had not ended at press time for this edition.
