A northwest Harnett County teenager lost her life in an accident near Mamers Wednesday that also sent two other occupants of her car to area hospitals.
Macayla Bailey, 16, of Wade Stephenson Road, Holly Springs, died in the accident which occurred in the 1700 block of Lloyd Stewart Road near Mamers shortly after 4:30 Wednesday afternoon.
Macayla is a former student at Harnett Central High School, according to Harnett County Schools Public Information Director Natalie Ferrell.
According to North Carolina Highway Patrol reports, Macayla and two other occupants in her 2004 Saturn were ejected when the vehicle they were in ran off the road and overturned.
Also injured in the accident were Maraeyea Rutie-Nicole Cockman, 17, also of Wade Stephenson Road, Holly Springs, and Jasmine Jones of Marks Road, Cameron.
Both of those injured are also former students in the Harnett County School system. Ms. Cockman was previously a student at Overhills High School and Ms. Jones was formerly at Western Harnett High School.
The two victims were transported to Betsy Johnson Hospital in Dunn where they were treated for their injuries.
