A neighbor checking on a sick friend late Thursday morning led sheriff’s deputies to grizzly discovery inside a mobile home.
Around 12:50 p.m. Harnett County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were dispatched to a mobile home on Gordon Road near Spring Lake. That’s when the first officer on the scene discovered the lifeless body of 32-year-old Antonio Lamar McMillan. Mr. McMillan was not on the lease, but was classed by family members as a frequent resident.
“The first officer on the scene went inside and confirmed he was dead on arrival and then backed out to wait on a search warrant,” Harnett County Sheriff Wayne Coats said. “We’re treating it as a homicide, he had a gunshot wound to the head.”
The sheriff confirmed the wound to the back of Mr. McMillan’s head in what is commonly described as execution style.
As law enforcement activity at the scene increased late in the afternoon, reports surfaced from neighbors of a gun shot earlier in the day
According to Sheriff Coats, a nearby neighbor told law enforcement officials the same information.
“That’s what I’ve heard,” the sheriff said. “A lady heard a gun shot around 6 or 6:10 this morning. She said she went outside and didn’t see anything. So, that’s what I’m hearing as well.”
The results of a canvas of the area by deputies were not made public, but the sheriff did confirm that was when they learned of the reported gun shots.
Family members of the victim could be seen arriving throughout the afternoon before a brief conference with Sheriff Coats outside the Harnett County Mobile Command Center that had been set up at the scene shortly after the responding officer had reported the case as possible homicide.
No suspects in the crime have been named and the investigation into the shooting is continuing.
