Want To Renew Your Vows?

By LISA FARMER Managing Editor

Hood Memorial Christian Church in Dunn is doing something different for Valentine’s Day. The church is hosting a We Still Do ceremony Sunday at 2 p.m. at the church. What is We Still Do? It’s a chance for couples to renew their wedding vows — free.

The Rev. Joanie Williams, copastor of the church, and the Rev. Jason Williams, co-pastor, will conduct the ceremony.

The idea, Rev. Joanie Williams said, came from the men of the church.

“There is nothing like this in the community. It’s just something we thought would be a good opportunity, instead of handing flowers and candy, it is something more intimate to do,” she said.

She said renewing wedding vows will have more meaning and possibly bring back energy into a couple’s relationship.

“Those in our community who have lost a loved one, they are welcome to come, too. There will be a ceremony for them, as well, to remember their loved ones,” she said.

“We’re opening it up to the whole community, anyone who wants to be involved,” Rev. Williams said.

There is no charge, no signups.

“It’ll be a short ceremony. I don’t want anyone to think they have to plan for several hours,” Rev. Williams said.

“If they want to do it privately, we ask they call and ask for an appointment for that,” she said.

What should you wear?

“Dress comfortably,” Rev. Williams said. “You can dress up or wear Sunday attire, we don’t want anyone to go out and buy a brand-new dress to come.

“Nothing is required. You don’t have to bring anything with you,” Rev. Williams said.

Once the vows are exchanged, the couples will be provided certificates with their names on it and the date.

Hood Memorial is located at 300 E. Cumberland St. The phone number is 910-892-2711.

“We’ve pitched it as if you need a gift idea, well, here you go.”
