Harnett County Cooperative Extension Horticulture Agent Matt Jones presents a lecture about the science of the decomposition process, understanding the types of materials that are readily compostable, how to fine-tune the composing process by finding optimal temperature, moisture, aeration and pile dimensions, and troubleshooting common composting problems. The composting workshop was held at the N.C. Cooperative Extension Harnett County Center in Lillington. A demonstration on compost bin construction and the composting process was given by Extension Master Gardener volunteers following the lecture. Twentytwo participants from Harnett and neighboring counties participated, and most indicated they would start composting.
