A Carolina band that performs an average of 250 dates per year has added Johnston County to its stops for an upcoming concert.
The popular act, Jim Quick and Coastline, will bring its blend of soul, blues, R&B and Americana to Benson Thursday, Aug. 8, for the Sundown in Downtown concert series. Bring a picnic and grab your lawn chairs for an evening of music. The event will be from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Benson Singing Grove, 406 E. Main St. Admission is free.
Steve Hardy’s Original Beach Party will provide music between sets. In case of rain, the concert will move to the American Legion Building, located at 605 N. Wall St.
Jim Quick and Coastline is a recipient of multiple Carolina Music Awards, including the Entertainer of the Year 18 times. In addition to front man Jim Quick, band members include Casey Meyer, Daniel Anderson, Derek Arnold and Norman Allred. The band performs its own genre of music that members call “Swamp Soul.”
The musicians have performed and recorded with such artists as Delbert McClinton, The Temptations, Montgomery Gentry, Jimmy Hall, Grayson Hugh and Paul Thorn.
The band’s album, “Jim Quick and Coastline Live at MNO,” was released in the summer of 2018, on the Off The Records label.
Featured songs by the group include “Mama’s Drinkin’ Liquor Again,” “The Driver,” “Turn Me Over,” “She Poured It On,” “Sweat,” “Down South” and “Late at Night.”
The next event in the Sundown in Downtown concert series will be Liquid Pleasure from 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 12.
