Bomb threat evacuates Overhills Middle

No explosives found

Students at Overhills Middle School were evacuated after a bomb threat was received Wednesday morning around 9:47.

The Daily Record has learned the school was informed the bomb would be detonated at 11:30 a.m. and the school was immediately evacuated a short time after the threat was received.

The Daily Record has also learned a suspicious bag was located near the entrance to the gym, but turned out not to contain explosives after K-9 units from Fort Bragg were used to clear the scene.

Harnett County Schools spokeswoman Natalie Ferrell confirmed the threat was made to the school itself and the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office was immediately notified.

“There was nothing found that was a threat to the school,” she said. “The phone call was received at the school and all students were evacuated from the middle school to Overhills High School.”

The school was cleared at 12:30 p.m. and classes resumed normal schedule around 1 p.m.

No injuries were reported and the investigation into the threat continues.
