Burney’s is open for business

Burney’s Sweets & More opened its doors at 121 E. H St. in downtown Erwin with a soft opening Monday afternoon. Two hours later, the shop was closed.

“We opened at 2 p.m. and sold over 600 croissants in just two hours, not to mention all of our other baked goods,” said Nancy Jackson, who co-owns the shop with her husband and business partners. “We had to close early because we sold out.”

The bakery closed early Tuesday, too, after selling out once again.

“We closed about 4:30 or 5 yesterday,” Jackson said on Wednesday, adding that they plan to try to stay open until 6 p.m. on weekdays. “We are so thankful for the support.”

The bakery was hopping again on Wednesday as customers lined the glass counters picking out a variety of baked goods from doughnuts to croissants to brownies. Burney’s business hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Michael and Nancy Jackson co-own the bakery with Pat and Barbara Cameron, Ricky Symmonds and Dale Coats.
