Camels close out South American trip with big win


Campbell led 31-11 after the first quarter and rolled to a 96-62 win over Club Atena in the final game of its South American trip.

Junior guard Jordan Whitfield led the Camels with 18 points, including four 3-pointers, and Campbell finished with a 2-1 record in its 10-day tour.

Junior wing Ja’Cor Nelson added 11 points, while freshman forward Joshua Lusane chipped in nine. Freshman guard Messiah Thompson and red-shirt freshman wing LaDarius Knight scored eight apiece.

Campbell opened its three-game tour on Monday with an 81-52 win over the Buenos Aires select team, before falling to Uruguayan first division member Club Trouville 78-71 Thursday.

On Saturday, Campbell led 51-20 at the half and 77-45 at the end of three quarters. Ten Camels scored at least six points in a balanced effort.

The Camels are coming off a Big South Conference regular season championship and three-straight post-season appearances, including a trip to the 2019 NIT. Campbell finished the 2018-19 campaign with a 20-13 mark and 12-4 record in the league.
