The Campbell cross country program has announced its 2019 schedule, highlighted by the Camels hosting the Big South Championships in November.
“We have a lot of familiar meets on the schedule for this upcoming year, but the biggest change is that we get to host two home meets, including the Big South Conference Championship,” said head coach Michael Kelly.
Campbell will start the season on Aug. 30 at the Elon Opener. The course at Elon will be one of recent success for the Camels as the men’s team finished first and the women placed second at the event last year.
The Camels will return home for the Big South Preview on Sept. 14 in Buies Creek, marking the first home event since the Campbell Duals in 2017.
The squad then hits the road for two meets, starting at the Louisville Classic on Oct. 5 and then heading to the site of the NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Indiana, for the pre-nationals meet on Oct. 19.
The regular season concludes with Campbell hosting the Big South Conference Championships on Nov. 2.
“We are in the middle of fine-tuning the course layout over at Keith Hills and we are looking forward to making it one of the best conference meets in Big South history,” Kelly stated. Last year the men’s team captured the Big South title for the fourth straight season while the women’s team finished as runners-up for the second straight year.
Following the Big South Championships is the NCAA Southeast Regional which will take place on Nov. 15 in Earlysville, Virginia. The season concludes with the NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Indiana, on Nov. 23.
Campbell returns several All-Big South performers from last season including Amon Kemboi, Hunter Gilbert, Shanley Koekemoer, Lize Botha and Michaela Louw.
