Coats-Erwin improved to 3-2 on the season with an 18-0 win over Western Harnett Wednesday on the Falcons’ home field.
The Falcons took a 12-0 halftime lead, then added a third score early in the third quarter while holding the Cardinals scoreless.
The Falcons scored on their opening possession when Eligah Holmes broke loose on a 45-yard run. Holmes added a second touchdown late in the second quarter on a 60-yard run to give Coats-Erwin a 12-0 halftime lead.
Coats-Erwin extended its lead to 18-0 when James Shaw took the opening kickoff of the second half 60 yards for a touchdown.
Western Harnett mounted a drive late in the game, but the Falcon defense stiffened and put it to a stop to preserve the shutout win.
Nate McKoy, Cameron Howell and Hunter Pope stood out defensively for the Falcons.
Coats-Erwin will host Harnett Central next week in their season finale, while Western Harnett will play Highland.
