A music event will be held this weekend to help raise money to benefit the victims of this year’s hurricanes in North Carolina.
VMS Home Oxygen Inc. will present an “Evening of Praise, Worship and Fundraising” Sunday afternoon in Dunn.
The company’s owner, Lewis Bell, said he had a simple purpose in organizing the event.
“I have brothers and sisters in need and I want to help them,” Mr. Bell said. “This is my way of thanking God for sparing me and my family and my business.”
The world famous Gospel Keynotes, featuring Jeffrey Newberry, will be the main act of the day. The Gospel Keynotes are based out of Tyler, Texas.
The event will also feature guest appearances by The Master Keys of Angier, The Crusaders of North Carolina and soloist Towanda McDougal Witherspoon.
Mrs. Witherspoon is the daughter of Carolyn McDougal of Dunn. She lives in Durham and has performed throughout the area at churches and other venues.
Mrs. McDougal promotes the Gospel Keynotes and helped bring them to the area.
Mr. Bell said a committee will be set up to determine how the relief funds will be used. Those in need will be able to apply for help.
“We will find out who needs it the most and we will give it out until it’s gone,” Mr. Bell said.
Ticket prices are $15 in advance and $25 at the door. The event will be held at the Stewart Theatre located at 114 N. Wilson Ave. in Dunn. Doors open at 1 p.m. and the musical acts will begin at 3 p.m.
Anyone interested in purchasing tickets can contact Mr. Bell at 910-892-9286 or Ms. McDougal at 919-820-4324.
