Town officials won’t elaborate

According to Angier Town Manager Gerry Vincent, police chief Bobby Hallman has resigned his position effective Jan. 7.

In the interim Lt. Arthur Yarbrough will act as the police chief until further notice, according to Mr. Vincent.

Mr. Hallman, whose salary was $70,359.12 at the time of his resignation, took over the reigns of the Angier Police Department in 2008 Chief Jay Dudley left the department. Mr. Hallman was hired by the Angier Police Department in December of 2003.

Town officials have refused to comment on the reasons behind Mr. Hallman’s resignation citing North Carolina General Statutes calling his letter of resignation a part of his personnel file and therefore not a matter of public record.

“I can confirm that Bobby Hallman resigned effective Jan. 7 pursuant to N.C. Gen. Stat. 160A-168,” town attorney Dan Hartzog said in an email to The Daily Record. “A letter of resignation would be considered part of an employee’s personnel file, and could not be released.”

Mr. Hallman has not responded to multiple requests for comments.
