Lady Camels picked fourth in Big South soccer poll


Campbell has been picked to finish fourth in the Big South Conference preseason women’s soccer poll.

The defending league champion, Radford, was picked to finish first in league with 103 points and five first-place points followed by the runner-up from a season ago, Gardner-Webb with 103 points and four first-place votes.

Just ahead of the Camels, Longwood tallied 101 points and two first-place votes.

Campbell is coming off a 7-11-1 overall season while posting a 5-4-1 mark in league play. The winning record in Big South play marked the fifth-straight season the Camels posted a winning ledger in league play.

The Camels also advanced to the semifinals of the Big South Conference tournament for a program best fifth-straight season.

The Camels open up the 2019 regular season on Aug. 25 at 7 p.m. against UNC Greensboro at Eakes Athletics Complex in Buies Creek.

The squad, entering its third year under head coach Samar Azem, will take part in two preseason matches with the first slated for Aug. 12 at 7 p.m. on the road at Duke, followed by a home date with The Citadel on Aug. 16 at 5 p.m.
