Newton Grove police chief charged in domestic incident

Newton Grove’s police chief was charged in a domestic violence case in Johnston County Wednesday.

Johnston County Sheriff’s Capt. Jeff Caldwell said Everett Franklin “Frankie” Harrell, 48, of Four Oaks was charged with assault on a female after officers responded to a call at his house. He posted bond and was released from the Johnston County Jail.

Capt. Caldwell said the arrest came after deputies responded to a report of a domestic argument at Devil’s Racetrack Road.

The address is listed as the home of both Mr. Harrell and his wife. Capt. Caldwell described the incident as a disagreement between spouses.

Newton Grove Mayor Gerald Darden could not be immediately contacted.

The Daily Record was unable to reach Mr. Harrell for comment on the case.

Mr. Harrell was held the chief’s position in Newton Grove since April of 2004.
