Trees have been uprooted in Benson and the roofs of some structures have been reportedly blown off in the midst of a severe thunderstorm that plagued the area Thursday night.

Roofs, trees uprooted in Benson

Trees have been uprooted in Benson and the roofs of some structures have been reportedly blown off in the midst of a severe thunderstorm that plagued the area Thursday night.

A portion of N.C. Highway 27 between Coats and Benson has been closed due to a tree over the roadway.

It is unknown now, if the damages were caused by straight-line winds or a tornado. Crews are investigating.

Please use caution as storms are predicted to persist in the area until 9:15 p.m., according to the National Weather Service office in Raleigh.
