Soldier dead after motorcycle crash

A Fort Bragg solider was killed after the motorcycle he was riding struck a utility pole near Bunnlevel Wednesday night.

According to North Carolina State Highway Patrol Trooper Eric Mellott, 40-year-old Joel Gregorio Goyco was riding a 2018 Kawasaki motorcycle at a high rate of speed when he lost control and crossed the center line after passing two vehicles in a no-passing zone. The motorcycle then veered to the left side of the roadway where it left the road before hitting the pole.

Witnesses said CPR was administered at the scene, but Mr. Goyco was declared dead after being transported to Betsy Johnson Hospital in Dunn, according to Trooper Mellott.

Mr. Goyco was set to be deployed overseas today.
