Cameron motorcyclist killed

Second driver now faces charges


A Cameron man was killed when the motorcycle he was riding was struck by a pickup truck. The crash happened around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday near Anderson Creek.

According to a North Carolina State Highway Patrol spokesperson, Michael Scott Reaves, 50, died after his 2015 Harley-Davidson was struck head on by a 2006 Nissan pickup truck driven by Nicholas Craig Morris, 19, of Fayetteville.

According to the spokesperson, Mr. Morris was driving east on Shady Grove Road when he went left of center before hitting the motorcycle.

The truck then left the road and struck a ditch before overturning and ending right side up and catching fire.

Mr. Reaves was killed after he was ejected from the motorcycle before coming to rest on the right shoulder of Shady Grove Road. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the spokesperson, Mr. Morris was charged with felony death by motor vehicle. He was transported to the Harnett County Detention Center were he was jailed under a $10,000 secured bond.

No other injuries were reported, according to the spokesperson, and the accident remains under investigation.
