Firefighters carry the coffin of James ‘Jamie’ Melvin Rose during a funeral service on Friday, June 11. Rose served in the fire service for 35 years and as chief of the Buies Creek Fire Department. He left behind a score of family and friends after a two year battle with esophageal cancer came to an end on June 6. Rose was laid to rest in Rose Family Cemetery in Lillington. more
Harnett County Schools' Summer Nutrition Program serves students free meals over the summer with food drives each day from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The meals are available at Harnett Primary, Lillington Shawtown Elementary, Overhills Middle and Western Harnett Middle schools. Food is offered curbside. more
