2 area schools make tennis dual team postseason

The North Carolina High School Athletic Association finalized brackets for the 2022 Men’s Tennis Dual Team State Playoffs on Monday with two local teams qualifying.

Harnett Central (13-3) caps its best season in recent years with a No. 12 seed selection for the 3A East bracket, traveling to fifth-seeded Cape Fear (11-1).

The winner advances to a second-round matchup with either Fike or Hunt.

Central is riding a four-game win streak, including the 6-3 victory over rival Triton on April 20.  The Trojans finished second in the All American Conference and are led by seniors Reagan Gray, Jacob Brown and Tyler Greger.

In the 4A East, No. 16 Overhills has a first-round date at top-seeded Pinecrest with the winner facing Lumberton or D.H. Conley.

The Jags (2-6) qualified by finishing as the AAC's top 4A squad, earning its wins over fellow 4A team Pine Forest.  Damien Graves and Gavyn Edwards pace Overhills as the only seniors.

First-round contests are scheduled for Wednesday and the second round will be played Tuesday, May 3.
