ALDI coming to Wayne County

Grab your empty shopping bags.

ALDI is officially opening June 17 in Goldsboro.

The grand opening is 8 a.m. at the old Bed, Bath and Beyond Store on Berkeley Boulevard. Shoppers can register for the store’s sweepstakes promotion of a $500 ALDI gift card by scanning a QR code with their mobile device.

In early February, the company confirmed it would expand to Wayne County. ALDI currently operates stores in Wilson and Lenoir counties.

“ALDI stores are purposefully designed for simplicity and efficiency,” said Jeff Bianchetta, Petersburg division vice president for ALDI. “A typical store is approximately 12,000 square feet of retail space, making ALDI stores much easier to navigate than traditional grocery stores.

“Stores also feature open ceilings, natural lighting and are built with environmentally-friendly materials. Most importantly, ALDI stores are optimized to provide the cleanest and safest shopping environment possible.”

Here are some facts about ALDI:

The store does not accept manufacturer coupons.

Shoppers must provide their own bags to load groceries.

Should shoppers wish to use a grocery cart, they will need to deposit a quarter into the cart machine. The quarter will be returned when the shopper is done.

ALDI accepts cash, credit, debit and EBT cards as forms of payment. Checks are not accepted.

According to the company, ALDI is opening 100 new stores in 2021 and plans to add curbside grocery pickup at 500 locations by the end of the year. ALDI operates more than 2,000 stores in 37 states nationwide.
