Angier dedicates new depot mural
The town of Angier dedicated a new mural Tuesday morning, depicting an early downtown scene with key members of Angier when the Durham & Southern Railway was active.

The mural is dedicated to "Frank Myatt, Rachel Barnes, Robert Ogburn and devoted citizens for the restoration of the Angier Depot and caboose purchase in 1986," according to a plaque that will hang beside the painting.

The mural depicts Barnes, a former town employee, handing off the town’s mail to Durham & Southern Railway employee, Earl Tart, as the train passed through town on its way to Apex.

Barnes said she used to run out the mail to the train as it moved through town to prevent it from having to stop in its climb up a grade toward Apex.

Family members of Barnes, Myatt and Ogburn, town officials and several others attended the dedication.
