Suzanne Matthews, assistant district attorney for the 12th Prosecutorial District (Harnett and Lee counties), tells Dunn Rotarians about the caseload prosecutors handle. Prosecutors in Harnett County, she said, handle 35,000 case filings or more every year. She noted that a recent North Carolina law moved the upper age limit for juvenile court cases from 16 to 18 - a move that will add even more cases to the juvenile docket. Matthews had high praise for the Veterans Treatment Court that has been established in Harnett County and offers services to military veterans who have a brush with the law. She stressed that the role of the district attorney’s office is ‘to seek justice’ in all matters.
