For the Record

Central Baptist Church in the Plain View community will host the award-winning southern gospel group, The Nelons, on Sunday, Feb. 21 during a concert at 9 a.m. and in the worship service at 10 a.m.

Sunday evening at 6, The Nelons will be at Fellowship Church, 1505 Ross Road, Lillington, for a free drive-in outdoor service.

The group, The Nelons, was started by founding member Rex Nelon as The Rex Nelon Singers in 1977. The group introduced songs such as “Come Morning,” “We Shall Wear a Robe and Crown” and “O For A Thousand Tongues.”

Over time the group became known as The Nelons, including such talent as Karen Peck, Janet Paschal and Charlotte Ritchie. The Nelons have been nominated for or received Dove Awards, Singing News Awards and Grammys throughout its history.

The group continues to travel extensively, was a part of the Gaither Homecoming Tour and recently appeared on the Grand Ole Opry.

Today’s group includes Rex Nelon’s daughter, Kelly Nelon Clark, and husband, Jason Clark, and granddaughters, Amber Kistler and Autumn Clark. Together, they perform a blend of gospel, a cappella, hymns, Americana, folk, and inspirational music.

The Nelons proclaim to combine the best of a variety of genres, in a way that unifies every audience, bridging the generational gap of the young and old.

Central Baptist Church is located 4 miles south of Dunn on U.S. Highway 421 at 6050 Plain View Highway, (exit 73 off Interstate 95). For more information, call 910-892-7914 or visit cbcdunn.com.
