Camels to host open scrimmage this weekend

BUIES CREEK — Campbell’s football team held its second of three scrimmages over the weekend in preparation for the 2021 football season.

The live, controlled scrimmage pitted the CU offense against the defense in a two hour session and it marked the 13th of Campbell’s 18 scheduled practices this preseason.

Campbell will close out the 2021 preseason with an open scrimmage on Saturday at Barker-Lane Stadium. Admission is free, with gates opening at 5 p.m., for the approximate 6 p.m. start.

Due to COVID-19 protocols, there will be no autograph session and fans will not be allowed on the field.

In addition to a first look at this year’s Camels, CU football gear will be available for purchase, including authentic game-worn jerseys.

Campbell-branded clear bags will also be for sale at the scrimmage. Campbell University Athletics will implement a clear bag policy, announced in July, that regulates the size and type of bag that may be carried into school facilities during the 2021-22 year, including Barker-Lane Stadium, Jim Perry Stadium and the Pope Convocation Center/Gore Arena.

Season and single-game tickets for 2021 will be available for purchase on site.

Camel Kids Club welcome packets will be ready for pickup at the event. New memberships will also be available on site. Remaining fan cutouts from the 2020-21 season will also be available for pick up.

CU will open the regular season at Liberty University on Sept. 4, the team’s fifth consecutive game against a Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) program. Campbell will make its home debut on Sept. 11 at 6 p.m., against Elon.

Camels defensive back Darion Slade was named to the Big South’s 2021 preseason all-conference team, while quarterback Hajj-Malik Williams, tight end Julian Hill, and linebacker Justice Galloway-Velazquez all picked up honorable mention accolades. Campbell was picked fifth in the eight-team Big South preseason poll.

Single-game tickets for all five of Campbell’s home dates this season at Barker-Lane Stadium are now on sale. Tickets start at $10 per game, and are available online at, in person at the CU Athletics Ticket Office, or by phone at 910-893-1459.

Season tickets also remain on sale, starting at $100.
