Couple choose birthday month to renew wedding vows

Posted

Deacon Purvis Pue and Dr. Bishop Edith R. Pue of Dunn both celebrated birthdays in September and chose this month to renew their wedding vows.

Mrs. Pue turned 77 years young on Sept. 21 and Mr. Pue was 90 on Sept. 6.

The two renewed their wedding vows on Sept. 4 at First Free Will Baptist Church in Erwin.

Mrs. Pue recalled how she met her husband.

“My brother, Croney T. Monk, passed away in New Haven, Connecticut. The family was bringing his body back to Newton Grove, North Carolina to bury him at Monk Hillside Cemetery.

“My family and I were driving to North Carolina. We stopped at a rest stop to eat. I did not want to get out of the car, I wanted to go to sleep. I had a dream of a man I did not know, and he was handing me something, I do not know what it was. I saw no face and tan pants.

“Eight years went by, I was living in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. My mother got sick and I went to Connecticut to help with my five sisters and two brothers to take care of Mommy. While I was at Saint Mary’s Church was when I met this man. I went to a church in West Haven, Connecticut. And he was there, that’s when I learned he was a deacon of the church, he was the chairman of the Deacon Board.

“We met and went out on a date, and (like) in my dream eight years before, I’m seeing him in the tan pants and handing me some cheese twist.

“We got married eight months later at city hall in Connecticut. Now 17 years later, I wanted to renew my wedding vows in a church.”

Mr. and Mrs. Pue celebrated their 17th wedding anniversary on Feb. 10, 2021.

“God is a loving and good God,” she said. “And his words never come back void.”
