CU hoops lands ‘versatile’ wing

BUIES CREEK — Mason Grant, a 6-foot-5 wing from North Charleston, South Carolina, has signed an athletics grant-in-aid scholarship with Campbell.

CU men’s basketball coach Kevin McGeehan announced the addition Friday.

“We are really excited to add a player and person of Mason’s caliber to our program,” McGeehan said. “Mason is extremely versatile on both sides of the ball. I also feel like Mason will continue to develop as a player with the things we emphasize daily. The sky is the limit, as I believe his character will add to our program’s culture.”

The 2021 Lowcountry Player of the Year averaged 21 points and 7.5 rebounds as a senior for Porter Gaud School, en route to the 3A SCISA state championship game. A two-time first-team All-Lowcountry Team choice, Grant shot 54.8 % from the floor and was named to the SCISA all-tournament team. He also contributed 22 points, six rebounds and three blocks as a junior.

Grant was a two-year starter at Fort Dorchester High School, where he earned 5A all-region honors as a sophomore before transferring to Porter Gaud.

He is the third signee in the 2021 Campbell recruiting class, joining guards Broc Bidwell and Dakari Johnson.

Campbell returns 99 % of its scoring and minutes from last season’s team that finished 17-10 overall and reached the Big South Championship final.
