A Wednesday night shooting near Lillington appears to have started from a fight between a father and son, according to the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were called to the home at 795 Brown Road off of Cool Springs Road around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday after a domestic dispute escalated into a reported shooting.
Harnett County Maj. Aaron Meredith told The Daily Record an argument over repair work to a vehicle resulted in 65-year-old Robin Brown shooting his 35-year-old son Robin Brown in the leg.
“It’s still under investigation, but we believe it was done in self defense,” Meredith said. “Because it appears to be self defense, no charges have been filed at this time.”
Meredith said the son allegedly struck the father during the argument and the father, in turn, fired one shot, striking his son in the leg.
The son was taken to a hospital in Raleigh where he remained Thursday morning being treated for what officers say appeared to be a non-life threatening injury.
“We will continue the investigation,” Meredith said. “But at this time no charges are being filed. However, that could change should the situation dictate after further investigation into the incident.”
