Donald A. Smith, 57


DUNN — Donald A. Smith, 57, passed away Friday, May 20, 2022, at the Carrolton Nursing and Rehab Center in Dunn. He was born in Harnett County on Feb. 24, 1965, to the late Alton and Edna Jernigan Smith.

Donald was a 1983 graduate of Dunn High School. He was a volunteer member of the Dunn Rescue Squad. Donald worked at Belk as a manager for over 20 years. He also worked at Family Medical Supply for over nine years and then went to work with the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office as a Master Control Operator for over 12 years. He also worked part time at Skinner & Smith Funeral Home for several years. Donald was a member of Palmyra Masonic Lodge, Dunn Shrine Club, and was “Spanky” with the Dunn Clowns for over 25 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and served as a deacon.

A funeral service celebrating his life was held Monday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church by Dr. Len Keever, the Rev. Eric Thornton and the Rev. Chris Hall. Burial with Masonic Rites will follow in Lee’s Chapel, Williford Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Suzette Smith; two daughters, Parrish S. Matthews and husband Alex, and Hayden Smith, all of Dunn; a brother-in-law, Mike Sills and wife Annette of Dunn; a sister-in-law, Regina Johnson of Dunn; and several nieces and cousins.

The family received friends Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Skinner & Smith Funeral Home.
