Central Baptist Church will light up the Sampson County skies for the annual Dunn Patriotic Explosion on Sunday, June 27, at 7 p.m.
This event will begin with a musical voiced by the 100-plus Central Baptist Church choir, led by Worship Pastor Darren Hughes. This year, the event will include Dr. Steve Scheibner as speaker.
Scheibner was initially scheduled to fly American Airlines flight 11 on Sept. 11, 2001, the first of four planes to be hijacked by terrorists on that fateful day. Through a divine set of circumstances, Scheibner was bumped from that flight the night before by a more senior pilot.
His YouTube video, “In My Seat,” has reached over 2 million views. This viral video recounts the events leading up to Flight 11 and the subsequent death of Tom McGuinness in the seat that should have been filled by Scheibner.
“You won’t want to miss Steve sharing the powerful story of God’s provision 20 years ago,” stated a press release from Central Baptist.
The Patriotic Explosion will feature free food, a message of hope and the largest display of fireworks in the Dunn area.
Don’t forget to bring your lawn chair or a blanket to enjoy the fireworks show! The event is free and open to the public.
Central Baptist Church is located 4 miles south of Dunn on U.S. Highway 421 at 6050 Plain View Highway, (exit 73 off Interstate 95).
