Fort Bragg soldier accused of multiple child sex offenses

A Fort Bragg soldier is accused of multiple sex offenses with a child after a 12-year-old runaway was found in his custody.

Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to 7157 Maxwell Road to assist Alleghany County deputies in locating the runaway at 12:20 a.m. Thursday, June 10.

“Once on scene, deputies made contact with the missing juvenile and 20-year-old, Damien Isaiah Campbell of Georgia, currently stationed at Fort Bragg,” according to a CCSO release.

Campbell was arrested and charged with three counts of statutory rape and five counts each of statutory sex offense and taking indecent liberties with a minor after an investigation.

Campbell is being held at the Cumberland County Detention Center on a $550,000 secure bond. His first appearance is set for 2:30 p.m. Friday, June 11 at the Cumberland County Detention Center.
