Harnett Central student awarded Optimist Club scholarship

Harnett Central High School graduate Liam Peebles was one of four high school seniors awarded $1,500 scholarships by The Optimist Club of Washington.

Liam, who was presented the Buddy Baker Optimist Scholarship, is the son of William and Tara Peebles. He is the grandson of Karla and James Markus, Debbie and Rodney Dye and great-grandson of Shirleyan Phelps and Bill Webster.

He plans to attend Wake Technical College and North Carolina State University, where he has been accepted in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. He plans to study plant genetics.

The Optimist Club Scholarships are awarded to students who have played school sports and have volunteered in their community helping others. Patty Peebles, president of the Optimist Club, presented each student with their check, a certificate and an Optimist Club insulated cup at a dinner at King Chicken in Washington.
