The well-known comedy-drama “Steel Magnolias” opens Friday in downtown Dunn.
Presented by the community theater group Harnett Regional Theatre, the production, directed by Bob Schmid, will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, May 14-15. Matinee shows are set for Saturday and Sunday, May 15-16, at 2:30 p.m. in The Stewart Theatre in downtown Dunn.

“Steel Magnolias,” by American writer Robert Harling, based on his experience with his sister’s death, is about a tight-knit group of women in Chinquapin Parrish, Louisiana. It is set in a small-town beauty shop and deals with friendship, love and tragedy.
The film version in 1989 starred Olympia Dukakis, Sally Field, Daryl Hannah, Shirley MacLaine, Dolly Parton and Julia Roberts.
The HRT cast features Abigail Jordan (Truvy Jones), Kathy Day (Ouiser Boudreaux), Lynda Turner (Clairee Belcher), Shannon Plummer-White (Annelle Dupy-Desoto), Hannah Anderson (M’Lynn Eatenton) and Hannah Stevens (Shelby Eatenton-Latcherie).
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, face coverings will be required by all audience members during the performance. Tickets are also assigned for social distancing.
