Have you seen this missing man?


The Harnett County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in locating a missing elderly man from Lillington.

Deputies and state troopers are searching for Gary Edward Gardner, 79, of Ross Road.

Around 8:14 a.m. Wednesday, the Sheriff’s Office was notified Gardner, who suffers from dementia, was last seen Tuesday at 3 p.m. At the time he was wearing blue jeans, a dark blue coat, black gloves and an orange vest and hat, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

He is described as a white man, with long gray hair, a beard and hazel eyes. He stands 6-feet-1-inch tall and weighs 140 pounds.

Gardner lives off of the Cape Fear River and is said to walk a path along the river daily. A ground search is underway and the State Highway Patrol helicopter is assisting.

Anyone who has seen Gardner is asked to call the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office immediately at 910-893-9111.
